Alexander the Great
After defeating Darius, Alexander took over the rule of Egypt. Proclaiming himself to be Pharoah he took on the task of rebuilding some of the temples that had been destroyed by the Persians. He founded the city of Alexandria in Egypt.
His reign as Pharoah was only nine years yet he had a decisive impact on the kingdom. His immediate successors, his brother and his own son were the only members of this short-lived dynasty. But the Greek Ptolemiac dynasty that followed lasted 275 years. |
